Director Bruce Shang

 

Director Bruce ShangBruce Shang is head coach of both girls’ and boys’ varsity volleyball teams at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH.

Bruce enters his 11th season as the girls’ head coach at Phillips Exeter Academy.  During that time, he has built the program into a top contender of the New England Prep School Athletic Conference.  Since 2013, the girls’ team has finished in the top 4 of the conference.  Phillips Exeter girls’ team has attended 5 finals and won 3 championships during the last 10 years.  In 2019, the team finished undefeated with a 20-0 record.

In 2014, Bruce started the boys’ program at Phillips Exeter Academy.  Since beginning the program, the team has won 5 championships in the last 6 years. 

In the summer, Bruce works as a strength and conditioning coach for a preparatory school soccer camp and a preparatory school volleyball camp.  He founded the Phillips Exeter Academy summer volleyball camp.

Prior to Exeter, Bruce coached the San Francisco Juniors 16’s club volleyball team.  He taught physical education and coached his middle school teams to championships in multiple sports.  He started his own sports camps in San Francisco in the summer teaching volleyball and basketball.

Bruce has worked Nike volleyball camps for the University of San Francisco, Fairfield University, and Rutgers University. 

In 1999-2001, he worked as an assistant coach for Rutgers University Division 1 team with responsibilities including recruiting, day to day practice, and scouting.
